Apple TV + is the least popular streaming service

Launched in November 2019, Apple TV + does not seem to have won over viewers yet. Several points are still lacking.

Last year, the streaming services market was turned upside down with the arrival of two major companies; Disney and Apple. If the first is far from being foreign to the world of entertainment, this is not the case with the second, which is more specialized in technology. This did not prevent her from entering the streaming market, with more than mixed success.

According to a study by Flixed, specialist in streaming services, Apple TV + has had bad ratings. Users would spend an average of 16 minutes finding a show to watch, compared to 11 minutes on Disney +, 10 on Netflix, and 9 on Hulu. Figures that should not be taken literally, but rather as an idea. The methodology used by Flixed leaves much to be desired, but its study still shows trends.

The relatively long time spent scanning Apple’s programs could be explained by the fact that the Apple TV app mixes rental programs with streaming ones. It might be more interesting for viewers to have a dedicated streaming app.

Mixed reviews

Moreover, Apple TV + collects the lowest percentage of satisfaction in terms of ease of navigation, whether in the new features menu or for searching. Aspects on which Netflix is widely distinguished since the service collects more than 80% satisfaction against +/- 50% for Apple TV +.

The crowned streaming platform doesn’t do much better when it comes to program suggestions, with just 56% satisfaction. Apple TV + algorithms would fail to deliver content likely to appeal to subscribers. This could be explained by the fact that the number of programs available is limited. The platform has in fact around thirty content at present, including animated films and documentaries.

Worse yet, Apple TV + lags behind cable TV in terms of overall satisfaction with 60%, compared to 67% for TV and 91% for Netflix.

A developing service

Apple can still breathe, viewers do not seem to hold it against him for the lack of programs likely to please them. The fact that the American firm has entered the streaming services market with a strategy of offering only original programs seems to make viewers less critical of the limited number of programs available.

Launched less than a year ago, the crowned streaming platform has already hosted several new programs and should host many more. There are indeed many projects. Apple has signed with big names in Hollywood, including Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorcese.

A reorganization of the app and algorithms could help the platform win over and retain subscribers, but again, Apple TV + is still in its infancy and could therefore surprise us in the years to come.
