A special event in March or not? Apple still wouldn’t make up its mind according to Jon Prosser, the journalist who revealed this weekend that Target had several new items ready in its inventory (read: New generations of AirPods, Apple TV, iPod touch and Apple Watch bands at Target). To announce all these new features and also for the iPhone 9, an earlier rumor evoked a keynote organized on March 31.
Jon Prosser’s sources say Apple would be reluctant to host a conference or release the news with simple press releases. The decision would still tilt at 60% in favor of the special event, but nothing would be decided at this stage. Unlike a major event like WWDC or even the September conference, smaller events like this can more be decided at the last minute, Apple organizing everything at home.
Last year, the firm had well organized a special event in March, but it was a conference devoted entirely to its services, not its new products. There had been new things, however, in the spring, but Apple had brought them all together in one week: AirPods 2, iPad mini 5, iMac or iPad Air 10.5 inches…
We could have the same thing this year with the iPhone 9, the AirTag, a new Apple TV and a few Apple Watch bands. Unless Apple decides it is worth inviting the press, we will find out soon enough.
