Apple Sports App Adds Home Screen Widgets, Expands League Support in New Update

Cupertino, CA – September 9, 2024 – Apple has released version 3.3 of its Apple sports app, introducing customizable widgets for Apple’s Home Screen that deliver live scores and schedules at a glance. The update also expands league support to include several European countries and additional soccer leagues.

The new widgets offer users quick access to real-time sports details without opening the app. users can choose between a “My Teams” view for personalized updates or a “league” view for complete coverage. According to Apple, widgets are customizable per device and there’s no limit to how many can be added. This update builds on the app’s initial launch earlier this year,aiming to provide a centralized and highly personalized sports experience for Apple users.

The latest version expands availability to fans in Austria, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, and Spain.New soccer league coverage includes Bundesliga 2, Ligue 2, Primeira Liga, Segunda División, and Serie B, adding to the app’s existing offerings.

Beyond widgets and expanded league support, the update also introduces followable upcoming events with Live Activities appearing on the Lock Screen when games begin. NFL and college football fans will also benefit from more detailed Live Activities and in-app updates,including timeout notifications.

The Apple Sports app is available for free on the App Store and currently holds a rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars based on over 134,000 ratings.

Apple stated,”To add a widget,users can choose either the “My Teams” view for scores and upcoming schedules for their favorited teams,or the “League” view to keep up with scores and schedules for every team in a league.Widgets can be customized per device, and there is no limit on how many can be added, keeping sports fans in the know with the information they care about most, no matter what device they are on.”
