Apple may release two models of iPhone 12 without 5G support

The devices of the iPhone 12 family, which are expected to be released in the second half of this year, will be the first Apple smartphones to support fifth-generation cellular communications (5G). But, as Internet sources now report, models limited to 4G / LTE support can also enter the series.

According to rumors, the new family will debut smartphones iPhone 12 (5.4 inches), iPhone 12 Max (6.1 inches), iPhone 12 Pro (6.1 inches) and iPhone 12 Pro Max (6.7 inches). The “heart” of the devices will be the Apple A14 processor, manufactured using 5-nanometer technology. All devices will be able to work in 5G mobile networks.

As it became known now, the versions of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Max will also be available in the version with only support for fourth-generation LTE mobile communications. The price of these devices allegedly will be between 549 and 649 US dollars, respectively. For comparison: 5G-options devices will cost at least $ 100 more.

The release of 4G versions of smartphones certainly makes sense. While 5G cellular networks are far from being available in all countries, and there is no reason for consumers in such regions to overpay for functionality that will actually be useless.

In the first quarter of 2020, shipments of smartphones on an annualized basis fell by 20.2%, amounting to 299.1 million units (Gartner statistics). Apple with a share of 13.7% is in third place in the ranking of leading suppliers.
