Apple launches a new 13-inch MacBook Pro!

Despite the coronavirus, Apple continues to unpack its novelties and today we are entitled to a refresh of the 13-inch MacBook Pro – yes, 13 inches and not 14 despite the insistence of rumors on the subject. This new model incorporates a keyboard with scissor mechanism, it also ships with Intel quad-core 10th generation chips, up to 4 TB of storage and up to 32 GB of RAM. We keep the Touch Bar and Touch ID, but this machine gains a “real” Esc key as well as arrow keys in inverted T.

The basic model of this new MacBook Pro offers twice as much storage (256 GB instead of 128 GB, you can breathe!), Up to 1 TB. A 4 TB option is also available. The integrated GPU, an Iris Plus Graphics, supports the Pro Display XDR at full definition 6K on the two MacBook Pro with 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports. Small detail that will be important for the future: these machines always carry Wi- Fi 5 (802.11ac) while Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) appeared on the iPhone SE.

A real Esc key!

We note in passing that these new MacBook Pro are a heavier hair (1.4 kg instead of 1.37 kg) and thick (1.56 cm against 1.49 cm) than their predecessors. You have to put the scissor keyboard somewhere, but almost no one will cry for the butterfly keyboard. The range always consists of two variants, differentiated by the number of Thunderbolt 3 ports. So we have:

  • € 1,499 : Core i5 (4 cores) 8th generation @ 1.4 GHz, Intel Iris Plus Graphics 645, 8 GB of LPDDR3 RAM (2133 MHz), 256 GB of SSD, 2 T3 ports
  • € 1,749 : Core i5 (4 cores) 8th generation @ 1.4 GHz, Intel Iris Plus Graphics 645, 8 GB of LPDDR3 RAM (2133 MHz), 512 GB of SSD, 2 T3 ports
  • € 2,129 : Core i5 (4 cores) 10th generation @ 2 GHz, Intel Iris Plus Graphics, 16 GB of LPDDR4X RAM (3,733 MHz), 512 GB of SSD, 4 T3 ports
  • € 2,379 : Core i5 (4 cores) 10th generation @ 2 GHz, Intel Iris Plus Graphics 645, 16 GB of LPDDR4X RAM (3,733 MHz), 1 TB of SSD, 4 T3 ports

If the first two models (2 T3 ports) display prices similar to the previous generation, this is not the case of the two high-end versions (4 T3 ports) which were sold respectively € 1,999 and € 2,249. The T3 2-port MacBook Pro really only has to double the storage capacity, which no one will complain about. However, do not offer 10th gen processors. when the new MacBook Air benefits at a lower price, it’s a little stiff.

Messy options

The first two models with two T3 ports can be upgraded with options like an 8th gen Core i7. at 1.7 GHz (+375 €), up to 16 GB of RAM (+125 €), up to 2 TB of SSD (+1000 €).

The other two models with 4 T3 ports can accommodate a Core i7 10th gen. 2.3 GHz (+ € 250), up to 32 GB of RAM (+ € 500), up to 4 TB of SSD (+1 500 €). The MacBook Pro 4 ports T3 “all options” costs € 4,379.

The four computers come with a 2-meter USB-C cable and a 61-watt AC charger.
