Apple has released a release version of iOS 13.3.1. What’s new

Last fall was especially rich in iOS updates. Since the release of iOS 13, Apple has released not only several patches with corrections, but also three completely functional updates containing a number of significant innovations. However, in December, the flow stopped and even test builds had to wait a whole month. Apple did not explain what exactly was associated with such a long delay, but one way or another, in early January, the company resumed testing program iOS 13.3.1, and today released its release version.

After only three stages of beta testing, Apple released the final version of iOS 13.3.1. This is rather strange, because usually the update tests take the company at least five, and sometimes even six or seven stages. Perhaps the update turned out to be so simple that only three were enough for developers to debug it. But be that as it may, it can already be downloaded by all interested owners of compatible models of iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Installation can be done either over the air or using a computer on Windows or macOS.

Despite the fact that iOS 13.3.1 is a third-order update, there are quite a few significant changes in it that should make the work of compatible devices more stable.

What’s New in iOS 13.3.1

  • Fixed a bug in the Communication Restrictions, which allowed to add a contact without entering the Screen Time password code;
  • The Mail error was fixed, which could lead to downloading images from remote servers even with the “Download external images” option turned off;
  • Fixed a bug that could lead to the display of several dialog boxes when undoing actions in Mail;
  • Fixed a bug that could lead to the inability to deliver push notifications over Wi-Fi;
  • HomePod adds support for Siri voices speaking the Indian version of English.

In addition, a special mechanism has appeared in iOS 13.3.1 that allows you to completely turn off geolocation services on the iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max. Previously, there was no such possibility, because the U1 chip could continuously control user locationtracking all his movements. This was necessary to ensure the correct operation of Ultra Wideband technology, which in some countries of the world is prohibited for use at the legislative level.

How to disable geolocation on iPhone

Most likely, Apple added this innovation in iOS 13.3.1 at the last moment, thus responding to the discontent of the audience, who considered that in this way the company was only spying on its customers. If you are using an iPhone 11, 11 Pro or iPhone 11 Pro Max, you can disable geolocation completely by going to “Settings” – “Privacy” – “Geolocation Services” – “System Services”. There you need to deactivate the Networking & Wireless function, after which the automatic activation of geolocation services will stop.
