Apple has a reputation for making a point of respecting the privacy of its users. This recent patent of the brand with the apple goes in any case in this direction. According to this document relayed by the AppleInsider site, Apple is working on a system that leverages augmented reality capabilities of Apple Glass. Thanks to digital signage Apple Glass, its carrier would the only one able to see the content displayed on the screen of his iPhone or iPad.

Conversely, people around will only see a black screen, all the content being directly broadcast on the lenses of Apple Glass. With this system, the manufacturer imagines a viable alternative to polarized screens. These panels certainly reduce the field of vision, but they have the annoying tendency of requiring to increase the brightness and by extension to reduce the autonomy of the device.

A black screen for others, a screen full of information for you

This project called “Privacy Screen” therefore removes this constraint, while offering the user the ability to completely hide the content displayed on the screen. Convenient when you want for example work / read / chat in public transport, without worrying about potential prying eyes. This is not all since this system would not only display information on the screen passively.

Indeed, the augmented reality capabilities of Apple Glass would also allow display commands on the iPhone and iPad screen. In other words, it would not be a “Read only” mode. To picture it, let’s say that everyone around you will feel like you are tapping on an off screen while for you, it’s like using your iPad or iPhone normally.

Like any patent, there is nothing to say that this technology will actually be integrated into Apple Glass, but it could in any case provide an additional layer of security to users concerned about the confidentiality of their data.
