Apple equips 27-inch iMac with new webcam and Intel chip | NOW

Apple has updated its iMac with a 27-inch screen. The device has a better webcam and Apple promises to provide standard SSD drives in iMacs from now on.

The new iMac has a new webcam with a resolution of 1080p, with which users can make video calls, for example. On earlier models, this was only possible with a resolution of 720p. The built-in microphones have also been improved, according to Apple.

The screen of the iMac still has a 5K resolution of 5120 by 2880 pixels. A matte screen is available for an extra price of 625 euros, which should reduce reflections in the image. The iMac will receive the tenth-generation Comet Lake processor from Intel. The question is how long Apple has been using these chips since the company recently announced create its own Mac processors.

From now on, Apple supplies the iMacs with an SSD drive as standard. This increases the reading and writing speed. These drives also come standard in the smaller iMacs with a 21.5-inch screen. In the Netherlands, the cheapest model of the new iMac with 27-inch screen costs 2,099 euros. Depending on the chosen parts, that price increases to a maximum of 2,599 euros.

Apple will release the new MacOS operating system MacOS Big Sur in the autumn. This also slightly renews the appearance of the system. For example, the round app icons in the dock are made square, such as on iOS. There will also be a control panel. In this window, for example, the WiFi settings and volume level can be adjusted.
