JawaPos.com – This week, Apple announced many breakthroughs starting from the launch of the iPhone 15 Series to several operating systems or OS for their devices. What Apple is presenting is a new operating system for their TVs, namely tvOS 17.
“Through strong hardware and software integration, Apple TV 4K becomes a more versatile living room device with the launch of FaceTime on tvOS 17 today, presenting a new way to connect with family and friends,” explained Apple, quoted from its official website.
Users can make calls directly from the Apple TV 4K, or start a call on an iPhone or iPad, and forward it to the Apple TV 4K. FaceTime on Apple TV 4K leverages Continuity Camera support to connect wirelessly to an iPhone or iPad, and leverages the devices’ cameras and microphones to bring participants together on the TV.
Later this year, new tvOS apps from Webex by Cisco and Zoom will also take advantage of Continuity Camera and extend its communications capabilities to Apple TV 4K. Developers can leverage the Continuous Camera API on Apple TV 4K to integrate iPhone or iPad into their tvOS apps, and create new immersive, shared entertainment experiences for the living room.
Also new in tvOS 17 on Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD is expanded functionality with Siri. Users can ask more general questions and receive helpful responses, making Siri more approachable and useful.
Additional features available with tvOS 17 include:
Control Center: redesigned Apple TV makes it easier for users to access key settings and information across the Apple TV experience. From the Home Screen, Control Center now displays system status, including active time and profile, and expands with other useful details based on user activity.
Siri Remote Locator: new on iPhone strengthens its seamless integration with Apple TV. Users can launch Apple TV Remote within Control Center on iPhone to find Siri Remote (2nd generation) or later. As the user gets closer to the remote, the circles on the screen will grow larger to guide their movements.
Interactivity with Apple Music Sing and Continuity Camera lets users see themselves on screen and add entertaining filters as they sing along to their favorite songs.
Memory as a screen saver: allows users to enjoy selected photos from their personal library, Shared Library, or both on the big screen.
Improve Dialogue: separates dialogue from background noise and brings it to the center channel so users can hear more clearly what’s being said through effects, action, and music in movies or TV shows on Apple TV 4K when paired with HomePod (2nd generation).
tvOS 17 is available as a free software update for Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD. Features may change at any time. Some features may not be available in all regions or all languages, or on all devices.
