Appeal against minister Isamit for eviction of family amid pandemic

Senator Alejandro Navarro (PRO) filed a protection appeal against the Minister of National Assets, Julio Isamit, for the eviction of a family who lived on a property located in the Teniente Merino 1 sector of the Concepción commune. The fact was denounced this week through a video on social networks, where a elderly woman is shown shocked during the eviction carried out by the Carabineros.

The order, which takes place during the visit of the Minister of National Assets, Julio Isamit, was executed at the request of the Biobío Regional Ministerial Secretariat, which claims for land that has belonged to the State since 1989, but which, however, is inhabited by Julio Padilla and his family since 1992, who are applying for the rental subsidy.

Regarding the eviction of the Padilla family, the parliamentarian commented that, “when the government says stay home, Minister Isamit throws families into the streets, in the midst of the pandemic. This is not only a lack of ethics, but also violates the human rights of the family and establishes that the Ministry did not seek an alternative for this family and threw it out on the street. Nothing interprets this action by Isamit in Concepción better than an elephant in glassware, that’s what Julio Isamit did in the Biobío region ”,

“If the government had an ethics commission, we would ask Piñera to bring Julio Isamit, Minister of National Assets, to that commission. As he does not have it, we are going to take him to court in an appeal before the eviction he has made in Concepción with a family of older adults that has thrown them into the street, “added Navarro.

The parliamentarian insisted that a “very serious” error was made, noting that “I hope the minister will correct it. We are not going to allow the right of the people to be trampled and that, in the midst of a pandemic, evictions are carried out by the State against families, wherever they live. All families have the right to be in a house and cannot be thrown onto the street as Isamit has done in Concepción. It is a political bullying that we are not going to allow ”, he sentenced.

Minister Isamit reacted to the news through Twitter, where he noted that, regarding the eviction in Concepción, “once I found out, I instructed to correct the situation and find a comprehensive solution for the person.”

“That will always be our path,” added Isamit in a brief response to share the clarification of the Seremi of National Assets of the BioBío, Sebastián Abudoj.

“With regard to the recovery of fiscal property that a 55-year-old man occupied in Concepción, we clarify that it was a process initiated by complaints from neighbors and a year ago by this Seremi. The minister barely took notice, asked me to find a comprehensive solution for the person” Abudoj noted, also on Twitter.

“For this reason, we made contact by helping him with a rental subsidy, which despite having rejected it in the past, we reiterated yesterday. In addition, this afternoon, the Municipality ended up building emergency housing on his family’s land and our social worker will continue to collaborate,” he added.
