Albuquerque – APD Detectives tracked Timothy Riha to a gym parking lot in Rio Rancho and arrested him today based on his felony warrant for Aggravated Indecent Exposure and Voyeurism.

Riha, 45, is accused exposing himself and taking photos and videos of people, including children, in fitting rooms at malls and department stores throughout Albuquerque during the past week.

Detectives with APD’s Felony Apprehension Support Team and Investigative Support Unit located Riha today around 11:30 a.m. in Rio Rancho. Riha appeared to be living inside his vehicle.

He was escorted to the Prisoner Transport Center and a throng of media awaited for him. He was flanked by two uniformed APD officers. He purposely dropped his sweat pants to expose his Calvin Klein underwear and was met with questions from the media.

Riha will be booked into the Metro Detention Center on charges of voyeurism (victim under 18) and aggravated indecent exposure (victim is less than 18 year old.) Additional charges for Sunday’s incidents are expected to be added at a later date.

BACKSTORY:

On May 12, 2025, officers from the Albuquerque Police Department responded to a call at the Coronado Mall regarding an aggravated indecent Exposure incident.

The reporting officer responded to the mall, where they were provided a video containing recordings of the suspect and the vehicle involved. The officer was informed that a woman and her seven-year-old daughter were in the H&M fitting rooms when she observed a male subject with his penis in his left hand, masturbating in the daughter’s presence. The mother of the juvenile stated that she questioned the subject asking him “What are you doing?” The subject then concealed his penis and left the fitting room. The woman followed him into the main area of the store, from which he then exited into the mall. The woman sent the seven-year-old home with her grandmother while she waited for the police to arrive.

An H&M employee showed an APD Officer video footage from the store’s cameras depicting the subject leaving the fitting room area and exiting the store around 4:54 PM. The woman confirmed that the subject in the video was the same individual who had masturbated in her daughter’s presence.

The APD officer then learned of another incident within the mall at the Hollister store, where a male subject was recording another young woman in the fitting room. That victim had left the mall before officers arrived to obtain her information. Video footage of that incident indicated a time of 4:37 PM.
An individual from mall security provided surveillance video of the subject within the mall, as well as the subject exiting the mall to the parking lot and driving away in a small blue car. The subject left the property onto San Pedro Blvd, proceeding northbound.

On May 13, 2025, the reporting officer obtained purchase information from Hollister, which identified the victim from the previous day. The reporting officer contacted the victim who stated that she was trying on a bathing suit when she saw in the mirror that someone was holding a black cell phone into her fitting room, appearing to record her. She told her friend in the adjacent fitting room what had happened, and the subject, speaking in a deep voice, said something to the effect that he was just picking something up. The victim stated that she was mostly undressed and therefore did not open the curtain to see the subject. The victim also stated that she would not be able to identify the subject in the future.

Video evidence indicates that the subject in both the H&M and Hollister incidents was the same individual. He was wearing a black mid-drift sleeveless t-shirt with an Albertsons logo on the left breast area, black shorts, black socks and shoes, and carrying a black baseball-style bat with “66” on it. A tattoo was also visible on his right upper arm near the shoulder.

On May 14, 2025, the reporting officer learned of a similar crime that occurred on May 12, 2025, at the Target store located at Paseo Del Norte and Interstate 25. In that case, a 17-year-old girl was trying on clothes in the fitting room when she noticed a black camera extended into her fitting room through the gap between the bottom of the door and the floor. The subject then moved to the fitting room next to hers and held the phone over the top of the shared wall.

The 17-year-old yelled for help, and the subject fled. The 17-year-old was able to see the subject and described him as a white male wearing a black hat, black shirt, and black shorts. Target personnel provided video footage of the subject entering and leaving the store, as well as walking back and forth from the fitting room area. The subject was carrying the same black bat with the “66” emblem and wearing the same black cropped sleeveless t-shirt with the Albertsons emblem on the left chest area. The tattoo on the subject’s right upper arm was also visible.

The images from Target’s videos provided a clear view of the subject’s face. This individual is the same subject seen in the Coronado Mall videos and matches the image of Timothy David Riha provided by the Real Time Crime Center (RTCC).

Based on the statements from victims and witnesses, as well as the collected video evidence, an arrest warrant was issued for Timothy David Riha on the charges of Felony Aggravated Indecent Exposure and Felony Voyeurism.
