Anticipation of Clashes in Central Maluku Expands, Kodam Pattimura Alerts Troops

AMBON,KOMPAS.com – Kodam XVI Pattimura alerted eight company-level units (SSK) to anticipate the potential for widespread clashes in the Maluku region.

This was done by holding a troop preparedness rally led by Pangdam XVI Pattimura Maj. Gen. Richard Tampubolon at the Makorem 151 Binaiya apple field on Wednesday (26/01/2022).

“The troop deployment ceremony was held in order to anticipate and prevent the conflict on Haruku Island from affecting other areas in Maluku,” Richard said while leading the rally, Wednesday.

Richard ensured that Kodam XVI Pattimura would always be on standby anytime and anywhere to help the National Police maintain the security situation in Maluku.

“I hope the conflict will subside soon and the situation will be conducive again,” he said.

Richard also reminded all soldiers to never hesitate to take stern action against those who threaten security.

“Do not hesitate to take stern action when there is a threat to the safety of the community and soldiers,” he said.

The eight SSK soldiers of Kodam XVI Pattimura who were alerted to prevent clashes in Maluku consisted of 4 SSK Battalion 733 Masariku, 2 SSK Denkav 5 BLC, and 2 SSK Denzipur 5 CMG.

After the apple, Richard ordered all line unit commanders Kodam Pattimura in Maluku and North Maluku to check the readiness of personnel and the completeness of each unit.

“So that they are ready to be mobilized at any time, and ask unit commanders to take preventive measures, coordinated with all agencies and other community components so that conflicts do not spread,” he said.

Previously, clashes between two villages occurred in Haruku Island District, Central Maluku.

The clashes were allegedly triggered by a land dispute, which caused some of the houses of residents in Kariuw Village to be burned by the masses.

In this incident, three people died, while two others were injured.

Meanwhile, residents whose houses caught fire fled to neighboring villages.
