Anthony Mackie is also said to play Captain America in the cinema

US actor Anthony Mackie has played Marvel superhero Sam Wilson alias Falcon several times, most recently in “Avengers: Endgame” in 2019 – but so far always in a supporting role. He became the main character in Marvel’s TV series “Falcon And The Winter Soldier,” which, among other things, dealt with who would be allowed to wear Captain America’s Stars and Stripes shield in the future.

Now Mackie could become the main actor in “Captain America 4” on the big screen. The actor was awarded the contract for the planned continuation of the action spectacle, reported the US industry papers »Deadline.com« and »Variety«. Marvel Studios has not yet taken a position.

In the “Avengers” series, Mackie played the ally of Captain America aka Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) so far. In “Avengers: Endgame,” the aged Rogers had offered to give the shield to his friend Sam. This scenario was also taken up in the miniseries “The Falcon And The Winter Soldier,” starring Mackie and Sebastian Stan.

Anthony Mackie was best known for his portrayal in “Deadly Command – The Hurt Locker” and his award-winning role as Sergeant JT Sanburn. He has appeared in six films as Sam Wilson, an Air Force veteran who will become a superhero.

With his rise to the leader of the »Avengers«, an African American will be seen for the first time in the successful Marvel film series in the role of the patriotic comic and symbolic figure. This is important for the audience and raises questions, says Mackie in one »Vogue«-Interview: “Now there are white kids who will look up to black Captain America.” His four children would now talk about it with white, Asian, and Latin American friends. “That’s the most important thing,” Mackie said. “If you take something familiar and turn it upside down, what do these conversations look like?”

Malcolm Spellman’s series started on Disney + last March. Spellman is now also on board as a writer for the next theatrical version. A director is not yet known.
