Anthony Sinisuka Ginting won a bronze medal Tokyo 2020 Olympics after defeating Guatemalan badminton player Kevin Cordon through two games 21-11, 21-13, Monday (2/8) night WIB.
Ginting tries to play patiently by inviting Cordon to play a rally. Ginting tried to place the ball which made Cordon unable to release his hard smash.
Ginting was left behind but could equalize to 4-4. Ginting then turned 7-4 ahead after Cordon made three consecutive errors.
Ginting managed to add one more point to lead 8-4. However, his efforts to keep the lead stopped after his smash hit the net and made it 8-5.
Ginting did not repeat the mistake. The placement of Ginting’s difficult balls made Cordon often make mistakes so Ginting could lead 11-5 in the first game interval.
Ginting continued to play patiently and did not get caught up in Cordon’s quick play after the interval. Ginting’s full control of the game allowed him to lead by a margin of eight points, 15-7.
Cordon had won four points but the Guatemalan badminton player was unable to stem Ginting to win the first game with a score of 21-11.
Ginting played more pressing at the beginning of the second game. Ginting took the initiative to put pressure on him by doing a smash, which made it difficult for Cordon.
Ginting’s constant pressure allowed him to win 7-2 over Cordon. Cordon managed to break Ginting’s point acquisition and won two consecutive points to reduce the lag to 4-8.
However, Ginting was able to control the situation again. Ginting won three points to make it 11-4 in the second game interval.
Cordon was able to rise by winning six points to be able to reduce the position to 10-13. In a stressful situation, Ginting was able to remain calm to keep the score from 15-10.
Ginting was able to gain additional points by taking advantage of a return error made by Cordon to lead 18-11. Ginting was then able to win three crucial points to close the second game with 21-13.
