Anthony Ginting Fails to Tokyo Olympic Badminton Final

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Anthony Sinisuka Ginting failed to make badminton men’s singles final Tokyo 2020 Olympics after losing 16-21, 11-21 to Chen Long in the semifinals at Musashino Forest Sport Plaza, Sunday (1/8).

Ginting dropped the first two points after his return came off the field and caught in the net. However, one cross smash made Ginting keep the distance to 1-2.

One drop shot across from Ginting made the player born in Cimahi, West Java equalize the score to 4-4.

Ginting’s return which was too fast made him leave the field, Chen Long also won 5 points with a score of 10-5.

Ginting’s agility to play in front of the net prevented Chen Long from winning in the first game interval, the score was 6-10. However, a smack in the net gave Chen Long an 11-6 lead in the first interval.

Ginting actually performed well in this first game with net games and cross smashes. However, Ginting’s several inaccurate punches made him fail to score points.

That too tight shot also made Ginting 7-14 behind Chen Long after the interval. With the addition of three consecutive points, Chen Long closed the first game with a 21-16 advantage over Ginting.

In the second game Chen Long continued to play by relying on defense before turning to attack. The sixth seed tends to play it safe while Ginting makes many mistakes of his own. Such a playing scheme made Chen Long lead 3-1 early in the second game.

One smash cross from the forehand side made Ginting win four points in a row while leveling the score to 6-6. However, Ginting’s four consecutive mistakes turned Chen Long away 10-6.

Chen Long’s smash jump to the left gave the Chinese representative an 11-6 lead in the second gym interval.

Chen Long and Ginting’s game didn’t change much after the interval. Ginting tried to be a little patient but still tried to put pressure on Chen Long.

It’s just that the game is sometimes too careful to make Ginting lose points. Chen Long himself became more confident after getting three consecutive points which put him 15-9 ahead.

Knowing that Ginting started to loosen up his attacks towards the end of the match, Chen Long became even more aggressive. Chen Long’s multiple cross-smash earned points.

Smes crossed to the left, making Chen Long end the second game with a score of 21-11. Ginting lost 16-21, 11-21 to Chen Long.
