Another wolf roams through Baden-Württemberg

Karlsruhe Insider (dpa / lsw) – A second wolf may settle permanently in Baden-Württemberg.

As the Environment Ministry announced in Stuttgart on Wednesday, the faeces found in the municipality of Schluchsee (Landkreis Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald) at the beginning of April came from the wolf male with the designation GW1129m.

It is the second evidence of this animal in the southwest. The wolf had already been detected in the municipality of Grafenhausen (Waldshut district) at the end of November 2019. Since GW1129m had apparently been living in the southern Black Forest for five months, it was “very likely that he would also settle there permanently,” it said.

This could create the second “Wolf promotion backdrop” of Baden-Württemberg in the area. If the animal was verifiably in the southern Black Forest at the end of May, the criteria would be met. A funding backdrop is then shown when a so-called resident wolf occurs in an area.

Within a “funding backdrop of wolf”, the state pays 90 percent of the cost of livestock owners for wolf-repellent fences. It can be set up as soon as a wolf lives in an area for at least six months. The first production backdrop in the southwest is in the northern Black Forest. The Wolf GW852m is resident there.

Analyzes by the Senckenberg Institute also showed that another wolf, probably from the Alps, tore two goats in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district in April.
