Another strike in the health sector

Some 60,000 employees of the Alliance of Professional and Technical Personnel in Health and Social Services demonstrated for a third time, Monday, across Quebec to demonstrate their dissatisfaction with the negotiations that are progressing too slowly for their liking.

In Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, 3,000 employees took a work break on Monday. They are asking for better wages and improved working conditions. The main challenge for the region is to attract staff and keep them on the territory.

“Each job title has different percentages. We have professional technicians who exercise up to 50% of their working time on strike, ”explained the Alliance’s national representative in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, Nancy Poulin.

Another day of strike action is scheduled for Tuesday. It will be the fourth out of a possible 10.

For their part, employees affiliated with the CSN were to be on strike until Tuesday evening, but with the intensification of negotiations, the union decided that it was no longer necessary to interrupt activities. The decision was made overnight Sunday through Monday at three a.m. While not all of the details of what was presented are known, the news is positive for employees.

“It’s always fun to see that our actions have yielded something and we are holding out until the last minute to achieve our goals,” said the president of the Union of office staff, technicians and professionals. Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean-CSN health and social services administration, Sandra Quirion. The members will therefore consult in the coming weeks.
