Another Greek tragedy for Oranjes due to corona | Inland

Willem-Alexander and Máxima would travel to Athens from 13 to 15 December at the invitation of the Greek president. The visit had to be largely dominated by migration problems there.

In Greece, the corona virus is currently spreading rapidly. In addition, sharp measures have also been in place in the Netherlands since this weekend due to the virus. Images of a cozy state banquet in Athens could make a strange impression when the Dutch population has to keep themselves at home after five.

Measures

The state visit is being postponed due to the high number of corona infections and the measures being taken to prevent the spread of the corona virus. Who took the initiative remains unmentioned, the king and Greek president Katerina Sakellaropoulou are said to have discussed it together.

The King and Queen started state visits again towards the summer, after a break since March 2020 due to corona. The first visit went to Germany in June and in November the couple paid a visit to Norway.

Corona also threw a spanner in the works for a Greek trip by the Oranges last October. A planned private stay had to be canceled after commotion arose when the royal family had flown to his holiday residence while the cabinet gave the impression with unclear advice that the Dutch should mainly stay at home.

The state visit to Greece has now been postponed. There is no new date yet.
