The municipality of Helmond has issued an emergency ordinance for the entire city after indications that rioters are again planning to cause disturbances on Friday evening. The police are present in large numbers.
A spokesperson reports to NU.nl that the police are currently only present preventively. There is a search.
The emergency ordinance applies until 6:00 am on Saturday morning. Mayor Elly Blanksma van Helmond says in a statement that riots such as Tuesday will not be tolerated. “We do not allow residents of Helmond to feel unsafe in their own living environment.”
The police reported having made one arrest around 7.30 pm. This person had a knife in his pocket and was in a security risk area.
Riots at illegal boxing match
The police want to prevent it just like tuesday gets out of hand. A group of 100 to 150 young people then came to an illegal boxing match. They lit fireworks and threw stones at the police. Six people were arrested.
It is restless in more places in North Brabant this week. Thursday night was it hit in the Eindhoven district of Tongelre, where young people had called for “surpassing” the Tuesday riots in Helmond. The police made 21 arrests for gathering there. Five detainees carried balaclavas.
