After introductory words by the President of the Landtag, Gabriele Andretta (SPD), the head of the Lower Saxony Memorials Foundation, Elke Gryglewski, will give a speech. The musical pieces “Evening Fantasy” by Viktor Ullmann and “Tranquility of the Area” by Erwin Schulhoff are also to be performed in the visitors’ gallery. Ullmann was murdered in Auschwitz in October 1944, Schulhoff died in 1942 after deportation in a camp in Weißenburg in Bavaria.
Corona measures prevent larger events
Due to the current corona restrictions, no guests will take part in the memorial hour. A large event was originally planned in the Marktkirche in Hanover, but it had to be canceled due to the extended lockdown. The memorial hour is part of the plenary session on Wednesday.
Holocaust Remembrance Day since 1996
