Anne Holt reacts to the princess’ book gift: – Incomprehensible – VG

Anne Holt reacts to Princess Ingrid Alexandra’s book package from the industry. Here in his own Oslo home in 2021.

The book industry gave Princess Ingrid Alexandra a varied collection of literature for her 18th birthday. But the crime fiction has been left out of the collection. That makes Anne Holt react.

– This genre is a locomotive for the industry, and also does Norwegian literature major services abroad. It is incomprehensible that the donors did not include the Riverton Prize winners of recent years, writes Anne Holt on Facebook.

The Riverton Prize is awarded by the Riverton Club every year, and will go to this year’s best Norwegian crime fiction work. But the crime genre is not included in the princess’s gift from the book industry, which consists of a selection of award-winning literature from recent years.

«The books in the collection are a selection published by Norwegian publishers by the country’s foremost authors, translators, comic book creators and illustrators, who in recent years have been honored with Norway’s most important literature prizes. The literature committee is thus made up of renowned juries, and represents the best of literature in Norwegian “, it says in the press release from the Publishers’ Association.

– A little scandal

Crime writer Anne Holt writes on Facebook that she thinks it’s great that the young jubilee gets a varied book package on the big day.

– Nice that children’s books and comics are also represented. Smart to go after the winners of the last years various prizes, then there will be little discussion about the content, she writes, and continues:

– It is a small scandal, however, that adult crime fiction is not included in the sample.

Holt concludes the post by congratulating the princess on the day, Friday, and writes:

– And remember that there is a lot of good crime written in this country! Although the industry itself does not seem to be particularly proud of it.

VG has been in contact with Holt, who has not had the opportunity to comment.

Promises to give crime

Heidi Austlid, CEO of the Publishers’ Association, writes in an e-mail to VG that the princess will receive crime novels:

– Of course, the princess will also receive the books from the last years winners of the Riverton Prize, writes Austlid.

She believes that claims that they are not proud of crime are wrong.

– This is a very important genre in the broad and diverse literature we have in this country. Crime is important for both readers and the industry. By the way, the princess also receives Sami literature.
