Wednesday evening, Anna Da Costa was out with a friend in Ghent. But the little evening quickly turned into a nightmare for 19-year-old students. “We were dressed as in summer, that is to say with a skirt and a top. It was 30 degrees too, ”she explains to the Nieuwsblad.
“I was coming home with a friend, it was super hot and we were both dressed in summer. We passed a cafe when a man shouted that he was going to fuck us and that we were whores, “testifies the victim on Twitter. When Anna confronted the man with his words, saying that it was not acceptable, he simply said, “I’m gay, you’re ugly and fat.”
Too much for the two friends who decide to leave. Under the insults of the boss and warning customers on the terraces of his behavior. This was not appreciated by the owner who slapped Anna. Helped by no one, the young woman decided to file a complaint. “I had a huge headache, I also went to the doctor on Thursday.”
Since the media coverage of this case, the boss has been hiding and his coffee has been vandalized several times. “It was never my intention. Of course, I want him to be punished. But it’s a job for the police, not for the vandals, ”claims the young girl at Laatste Nieuws. Because since the facts, the establishment was tagged with graffiti of the style “The manager hits the girls” and a broken pane.
“We are very shocked by the reactions,” says Anna. “Make no mistake, we want this man to receive appropriate punishment. But it is up to the police to determine what this punishment should be. ” The manhunt therefore did not please the victim, who also received all kinds of vicious comments. “That I looked for him because of my clothes (sigh). And then there were also people who used my story to tell and reinforce their racist ideas. ”
For Anna, this story must serve one simple purpose. “Maybe it’s time to tackle the problem, instead of repeating ‘it’s just like that’. File a complaint. Otherwise, the police simply do not know it is happening and cannot help them. “
