ANN ARBOR, MI – A 21-year-old man was found guilty of first-degree murder Wednesday in connection with a 2023 stabbing death in Ann Arbor. James Lee Trussell now faces a potential life sentance for teh killing.
The verdict was delivered in Washtenaw County’s 15th District Court, prompting a medical emergency in the courtroom as Trussell’s mother experienced a breathing issue and was removed in a wheelchair. The case stems from the death of a man found stabbed on July 22, 2023, near the intersection of Liberty and Fifth Avenue.
Emergency services were called to the courtroom immediately after the guilty verdict was read. Trussell’s mother was transported from the courtroom for medical attention.
Trussell was charged with first-degree murder following the investigation into the stabbing. Details of the evidence presented at trial have not been immediately released. Sentencing is scheduled for a later date, where Trussell will face a penalty up to and including life in prison.
