Anies Says Jakarta is Prepared to Be Surrounded by Floods from 3 Fronts

Jakarta

Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan said its citizens should be prepared to face flood from 3 fronts if the incoming water exceeds the capacity of the river. Anything?

The three fronts include rising sea levels in coastal areas, heavy rains in the city of Jakarta and heavy rains in mountainous areas crossed by 13 rivers.

“We will face these 3 fronts, if the volume of water entering Jakarta exceeds the capacity of our rivers, there will be overflows to the right and left of the river,” said Anies after attending an Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) preparedness meeting in the face of the La Nina disaster at Pluit Reservoir Park, Jakarta. North, Sunday (11/14/2021).

It is known that the capacity of rivers in Jakarta is only 2,300 cubic meters/second. Especially for the Ciliwung river, it can accommodate 600 meters/cubic.

“So when the volume and discharge of water coming from the mountains has reached 3,300 (cubic meters/second), it means that it is much higher than the capacity of our rivers. Then the right and left of the river will experience inundation,” he explained.

3 Keywords Facing Floods Ala Anies

Anies asked his residents to be prepared for flooding. Anies explained that there are 3 keywords that need to be remembered by the public, namely the standby phase, ready and anticipation.

“To run it all there are three key words to hold and implement. First alert, today we are showing alertness, we state alert, we state ready, we state anticipation,” he explained.

“What works, what doesn’t work, so prepare now,” he said.

Anies said, about two years ago there was a fire on the second floor of a resident’s house when there was a flood as high as 80 cm. This incident killed a husband and wife who died on the second floor of the house.

Anies said that at that time there was no community preparedness in dealing with floods, so this unfortunate event occurred. This condition is what Anies asked to be used as a lesson so that it does not happen again.

“Under full of water above, there was a fire, a husband and wife died on the second floor in a place full of water. This is a real incident. What is the important lesson from there, there are no stairs in that place, people cannot go down, there is no ready bucket, there is no readiness of the residents. to anticipate situations like this, floods never look at the time and location. Prepare small things, that’s why I ask everyone to review the events that happened in the past, prepare now for the alert phase, the phase to identify all the steps that must be taken, This is the real alert phase,” he said.
