Anies Positive Covid, JCI Starts Landslides & Afraid of Emergency Brakes?

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia– Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) still observed to be in the green zone strengthened by 0.99% ke level 5.666,06 on trade today is Tuesday (12/1/20), after having had 1.5% more. The strengthening of the JCI was cut after news emerged that the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan was positively infected by the Covid-19 virus.

JCI had strengthened due to the release of the Manufacturing PMI data where IHSMarkit reported manufacturing activity as reflected by the Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) at 50.6 in November 2020. Up nearly three points compared to the previous month’s position of 47.8 in fact, it is far above the consensus that predicts Indonesia’s PMI will only be in the range of 47.2.

PMI uses the number 50 as a starting point. If it is above 50, it means that the business world is entering an expansion phase, if it is below 50 then it is still contracting.

Increase IHSG saligned with the greening of all stock exchanges in Asia. The Nikkei Index, Tokyo, rose 1.41 percent this morning, followed by a 0.41 percent gain in the Hang Seng Index, Hong Kong. The Shanghai Composite also appreciated 0.23%. Meanwhile, Singapore’s Straits Times, up 0.20%.

Even so, foreign funds still came out of Rp. 188 billion with a transaction value of Rp. 7.5 trillion.

Previously reported, Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan positive for Covid-19. This was conveyed by Anies through a written statement from the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government on Tuesday (12/1/2020).

“The PCR test results stated that I was positive,” he said.

According to Anies, he and DKI Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza must undergo independent isolation for the next two weeks. They will run errands and meetings virtually.

“We have all been accustomed to doing this virtual work since last April, so there is no need to worry that productivity will decline or various policy processes will be disrupted,” he continued.
