Angry Children Use Helicopters, Police Chief: If It Can Still, I Tempeleng! Page all

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Chief of Police General Idham Azis | admitted that he was annoyed at the actions of his personnel who broke up the student demonstration at the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police Headquarters (Sultra) intersection, Saturday (26/9/2020), using helicopter.

Idham said that at this time, the police officers who had been the pilots in the dispersal of the student demonstrations had been prosecuted.

Idham emphasized that the dispersal of the mass action by helicopter was not in the police Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).

“I have acted on that pilot, and have checked with the propam. It just made it up, there was no SOP in the air, the one in Kendari,” he said.

Idham’s outbursts of anger began when member of Commission III of the DPR from the Golkar Party faction Supriansa asked him to analyze the motives of police officers who drove helicopters to disperse student protests in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi.

“So that the police in Kendari in the Southeast cannot be there, so that there are not too many victims, approach the police chief,” said Supriansa.

Supriansa admitted that he could not stop thinking about the police officers breaking up the demonstration using a helicopter.

According to Supriansa, this could endanger the people who are conducting demonstrations.

“Fortunately, it will be fine if the helicopter does not fall, try to imagine if it falls there, Mr. Kapolri,” he said.

Previously it was reported, hundreds of students rallied to commemorate the yearly death of two students of the University of Halu Oleo (UHO) Kendari, Randi and Muhammad Yusuf Kardawi at the intersection of the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police (Polda) headquarters, Saturday (26/9/2020).

Police used helicopters to disperse hundreds of demonstrators. As a result, the protesters ran to avoid dust and dry trash flying at the location of the action.

Helicopter the low-flying person appeared from inside the Regional Police Headquarters and then aimed at the demonstrators.

Students were angry because of the police action by lowering the helicopter while they were still giving their speeches regarding the shooting case of two of their colleagues.

Students held the action until evening and the police broke up the action by firing tear gas up to Jalan Martandu, the tank roundabout, Kendari.

This demonstration was carried out by hundreds of students from various intra-campus organizations, including from the UHO Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP).
