André van Duin happy not to have moved after the death of his husband | NOW

André van Duin is happy that he continued to live in the house where he lived with Martin Elferink for seventeen years. The 73-year-old presenter and comedian actually intended to relocate after the death of his husband, but eventually abandoned it.

“All the things that we actually bought for the apartment where I was going to live are now delivered here,” says Van Duin in conversation with The Telegraph. He and Elferink had recently purchased a new building in Amsterdam.

Now, however, Van Duin has decided to stay in his old house. “That’s why something is being refurbished here and there, new floor coverings in a room and such. A fresh breeze through it. I’m glad I didn’t sell this house just in time! It was not my birthday yet.”

Despite the difficult time that Van Duin is going through, he is going to celebrate his 73rd birthday on Thursday and has planned a dinner with some friends. “Yes, some distraction, you’d better make something of it”, the comedian says.

Van Duin and Elferink met in 2003 and married in 2006. Bone cancer was diagnosed at Elferink last August. At the time, Van Duin stated that the treatment went well and that he was therefore “very hopeful”. Elferink died in January at the age of 55.
