Veldman in the footsteps of Rutten and Boskamp
Sunday’s match against Standard Liege was the lowest point. With a 3-1 disadvantage for Anderlecht, the match in Liège was interrupted for the second time, as Brussels fans launched huge fireworks onto the pitch. The match – which turns out to be Anderlecht’s last match with Mazzù – is not resumed, which means that the visiting team risks a regular defeat.
Anderlecht’s first match led by Veldman is Thursday’s Conference League match in Brussels with FCSB. The Romanian club took only one point in the group stage, while Anderlecht are third with four points.
Veldman is certainly not Anderlecht’s first Dutch manager. In 2019 Fred Rutten was responsible for three months at Lotto Park and previously John van den Brom, Arie Haan, Johan Boskamp, Aad de Mos and Hans Croon were Anderlecht coaches.
