Ana G. Méndez University announces salary reduction for its employees

The administration of the Ana G. Mendez University (UAGM) announced the reduction of one day in the weekly working day of all full-time employees of the institution from next month, which will lead to a reduction in their wages.

In a bulletin sent by email, the president of the UAGM, José F. Méndez Méndez, reported that it is a measure designed to “manage the fiscal health of our organization”.

“If at any time we consider that the fiscal situation of our country, the ravages of Hurricane Maria and the tremors that occurred in January in the southern zone were the most critical events that we could face with a direct fiscal impact on our operations, it was definitely because we did not we could not even imagine the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemicRead the written communication.

“During this period, we identified an alternative that will help us keep our operation fiscally healthy to fully comply with our mission and vision. To this end, we will implement an adjustment in the operating hours of our university. From May 1, 2020, indefinitely, the working day for all UAGM employees and full-time faculty will be from Monday to Thursday. By excluding Fridays, everyone, including me, will receive a salary adjustment“Said Méndez Méndez.

After the passing of Hurricanes Irma and María in 2017, the university system made cuts amounting to $ 10.4 million in wages and benefits to employees, marketing, professional services and maintenance of infrastructure in order to face the decrease in income, according to the UAGM annual report for the fiscal year 2017-2018.

Last year, the four institutions that made up the Ana G. Méndez University System -Universidad Metropolitana, Universidad del Turabo, Universidad del Este and Universidad Ana G. Méndez- were consolidated under the same name, Ana G. Méndez University.
