An unconventional treatment …

(VOVWORLD) – L ‘ao dai is and remains “the” traditional costume of Vietnam, par excellence. As timeless as it is indestructible, it evolves over time without ever losing its essential characteristics. The proof with Nguyên Nhât Hà, a young stylist who chose to paint her long pond.

While talking to me about her work, Nguyên Nhât Hà remains very focused on each trait. It must be said that she is painting a lotus on a ao dai in white silk: the kind of situation in which one does not have the right to make mistakes! … And to top it all off, she has several people around her, who have come here to learn the secrets of this art so so that is to paint patterns on tunic pieces… Eh yes, “paint,” not “embroider,” and that’s what makes this 23-year-old stylist so original that she decided to make theao dai the support of its creation.

Graduated from the Hanoi School of Fine Arts in 2017, she therefore paints tunics like other canvases. On his table, a good tenlong pond are thus awaiting a treatment which is admittedly unconventional, but which, on arrival, reserves some nice, very nice surprises … Execution time: two to three days. Sometimes four if the sponsor has reservations about the final result: the customer is king, and you have to live well … However, Nguyên Nhât Hà has an aesthetic sense that protects her from any reproach …

“It goes through different stages: there is the design of the pattern, of course, then the first sketch, the coloring, the drying… And all of this is done in a fairly short period of time, I must say, which makes me happy. moreover obliges to make the sketch directly on the tunic ”, she tells us.

A delicate job, therefore, but quite lucrative, since Nguyên Nhât Hà turns around 15-20 million VND per month, or even more as the holidays approach. But let’s be reassured right away, the greed is not its driving force …

“What is most important is to identify the needs of the customers. Sometimes our tastes do not coincide with theirs, and there you have to know how to listen… ”, she confides to us.

The lotus flower remains one of the recurring motifs, one of the most requested, in any case, and in this, thelong pond painted does not differ much from thelong pond embroidered. On the other hand, it is always possible to paint landscapes, and this is where all the difference is… There is also the possibility of combining painting and embroidery: it simply takes a little more time…

“Sometimes I am asked to combine the two. In this case, it’s longer, it can easily take two weeks. It’s more expensive, too: a painted ao dai costs 1 to 3 million VND, but when you add embroidery, it can go up to 6 or 7 million! ”, Explains Nguyen Nhat Ha.

Embroidered or painted, thelong pond remains a source of inspiration for many artists around the world, such as the French photographer Réhahn who has produced a whole series of portraits of women in long pond. “People know me through my portraits, but for two or three years, I have been attracted to women in long pond», He readily confesses: enough to give Nguyên Nhât Hà a lot of work ….
