The Prime Minister Kiril Petkov convenes the Security Council. The meeting is scheduled for January 25, 2022 at 4:30 p.m., the Government Press Service announced.
Participants will discuss tensions over Ukraine and NATO Allies’ plans to strengthen the Alliance’s eastern flank.
The Security Council reports directly to the Prime Minister. Its main task is to analyze the state of the national security protection system.
We remind you that, as BLIC wrote earlier, tensions between Russia and the Alliance have escalated in recent days due to reports that Russian troops are accumulating on the border with Ukraine. Moscow was asked to withdraw “NATO forces” from Bulgaria and Romania. IN at the same time, NATO Allies are sending more ships and fighters to support the deterrence and defense forces in Eastern Europe.
Denmark is sending a frigate to the Baltic Sea and is ready to deploy four F-16 fighters in Lithuania in support of NATO’s long-standing airspace mission in the region, the statement added.
Spain is providing ships to join NATO’s navy and is considering sending fighter jets to Bulgaria.
France has expressed readiness to send troops to Romania under NATO command. The Netherlands has been sending two F-35 fighter jets to Bulgaria since April to support the activities of the airspace protection pact, and is putting a ship and ground forces on alert for Allied response forces.
The United States is considering increasing its military presence in the eastern part of the alliance, NATO added.
