In honor of the memory of the outstanding maestro Maris Jansons, on July 29 at 20.30 A concert dedicated to the great and much-loved conductor, which was admired by listeners and musicians all over the world, will be performed at the Jurmala Festival. The concert will be the opening ceremony of an exclusive record. A concert recording has been published on the vinyl record since July 7, 1972, when Mariss Jansons performed for the first time in the Dzintari Concert Hall with the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra, conducting Antonin Dvorak’s Ninth Symphony “From the New World”.

It is rare for a conductor in the world of classical music to be loved and admired as Marisa Janson (1943–2019). For both listeners and musicians, the concerts he conducted were always a much-anticipated event, which lifted several meters above the ground and opened the gates to such musical peaks, which only the most outstanding masters have approached, says M.Pučka. During his working life, the conductor has had several cherished orchestras – the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra at the beginning of his career, later 20 years the master created the sound of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, in America his gesture has left lasting impressions on the Pittsburgh Orchestra. In Europe, his name is inscribed in golden letters in the history of the Royal Concertgebouw ‘in Amsterdam and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. And as a guest conductor, he was always welcomed by the most demanding and outstanding orchestras in the world, including the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonic.

The Moscow State Symphony Orchestra is one of the oldest orchestras in Russia, founded in 1943. The orchestra has also premiered several opuses by Sergei Prokofiev and Dmitry Shostakovich, as well as performed with almost all the stars of the 20th century Soviet performing arts, notes a representative of the Dzintari Concert Hall.

The Czech romantic Antonin Dvorak’s chrestomathy symphony “From the New World” has been a very important opus in the life of both Maris Jansons and his father, the legendary conductor Arvīds Jansons. Mariss later recorded the symphony several times with his orchestras and included it in concert programs many times – also in a concert dedicated to his father at the Latvian National Opera in 2014, when the conductor visited Riga with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. The human nature, truthfulness of feelings and lyrics of this music suit Maris Janson so much, who always tried to create a special atmosphere when conducting, to touch people’s souls and communicate with listeners in the language of emotions, M.Pučka points out.

In an interview at the Berlin Philharmonic’s Digital Concert Hall in 2012, Mariss Janson says of Dvořák’s Ninth Symphony: “It’s a tragic piece for me because I feel so sad about it. The symphony with dance motifs also brings joy, but there are so long longs. Dvořák went to In the United States and drew various impressions, which were also reflected in his music, but all the time you can still feel a suffering soul that reads through almost every theme. feel this music. “

Mariss Jansons spent his childhood summers in Jūrmala, and it was in the Dzintari Concert Hall that he heard for the first time performing the excellence of 20th century classical music. However, Maris Jansons’ path to music, which is rich in creative success, began with violin playing, says M.Pučka. One of the closest conductor composers throughout his life was Peter Tchaikovsky. “I feel deep experiences in Tchaikovsky’s music, drama, torment of the soul, that’s why there are so many emotions that attract thousands of listeners,” said Mariss Jansons. The composer’s end-of-life masterpiece, the “Pathetic” symphony, is a heartbreaking story about the destinies of life, hope and death. Conductor Andris Poga’s convincing reading of Tchaikovsky’s symphony has excited listeners before in Latvia and abroad with other orchestras.

Taking into account the current gathering restrictions, the seating arrangement of Dzintari Concert Hall has been changed and up to 500 listeners will be able to attend each concert in person. However, in order to provide an opportunity to enjoy the concerts for a much wider audience, Dzintari Concert Hall together with musician Jānis Šipkēvics offers to watch the concerts remotely via the Internet live all over the world. Jānis Šipkēvics will host live internet broadcasts from a specially equipped concert studio, which will be visited by various musicians and well-known people. It will be possible to buy tickets for live internet broadcasts www.bilesuparadize.lv, and live concerts will be available for another month after the event, notes M.Pučka.

The “Jūrmala Festival” takes place this year thanks to the support of the city of Jūrmala and observing the valid gathering restrictions, ensuring a distance of two meters between the listeners and all the necessary safety measures.
