an exceptional auction of great wines seized and confiscated

More than 1,000 bottles of Grands Crus from Burgundy and Bordeaux went on sale on Saturday 30 April. They come from seizures and confiscations. The sale is organized by AGRASC (Agency for the management and recovery of seized and confiscated assets) and the National Directorate of State Interventions, of the General Directorate of Public Finance.

The sale was held in the Salle de Flore at the Palace of the Dukes of Dijon, made available by the municipality. This sale brought in 1,790,000 euros!

These “ill-gotten” assets are found on sale, and among the lots, prestigious grands crus, such as a bottle of Grand Cru de la Romanée-Conti from 2000, estimated between 13,000 and 15,000 euros. Other grands crus from the Domaine are offered for sale, estimated at between 2,000 and 3,000 euros a bottle.

Mouton-Rothschild, Pomerol, Petrus are among the other lots offered for sale. The auction operator is the Drouot house which offers to follow the sale live on the internet.

These bottles offered for sale are the result of seizures within the framework of economic and financial investigations (money laundering operations for example).
The assets seized sometimes relate to ongoing investigations, or are confiscations of assets of convicted persons.
The operator of the sale hoped to reach a total amount of around one million euros, which could go up to 1.4 million if the buyers fight over certain lots!

This estimate was greatly exceeded to reach 1.79 million euros!

The sale is organized in a prestigious setting, in the Salle de Flore of the Palace of the States of Burgundy in Dijon. Initially planned only on the internet (300 registered bidders), the sale is made in this context to publicize the operation, and to convey the message that “crime does not pay”and that assets acquired illegally return to the public domain, with a valuation that can be used to compensate victims or for actions of general interest.

THANK YOU takes care of entries : it is a public establishment, created to improve the effectiveness of the penal response intended to combat delinquency. The perpetrators of the proceeds of their crime are deprived of their property.
The AGRASC makes it possible to repair the damage suffered by the national community, by paying the proceeds of the goods sold to the State budget and to funds intended to compensate the victims or to finance actions of general interest.

The DNID is in charge of resale Seizures: this is a specialized department, responsible for the recovery of goods seized and confiscated by the courts, customs and the DGFiP in the context of tax disputes, but also for the sale of vehicles abandoned at the pound and discarded goods from public bodies.
