An earthquake with a magnitude of about 4 on the Richter scale hit Croatia in the northern region of Koprivnica. The tremors occurred at 8:43 a.m. on Tuesday.
“A terrible feeling, there was thunder and the whole house shook, it lasted a few seconds,” he told the newspaper dnevnik.hr one of the residents there. “It was like a short detonation,” another local compared the earthquake to a bomb explosion.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers, according to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismographic Center (EMSC). Measurements showed that the tremors originally occurred about 17 kilometers north of the village of Křiževci.
One of the strongest earthquakes in Croatia occurred on December 29, 2020 near the town of Petrinja. It then reached a magnitude of 6.4, causing significant damage. It claimed a total of seven lives and twenty wounded.
