Mayor Rijpstra van Smallingerland – which includes Drachten – has its hands full at the azc. The problem does not stop, he is so crazy that State Secretary Broekers-Knol demands that she take action. Indeed, AZCs should be there for real refugees, not arguments like this!
Last Monday there was a massive brawl in the azc in Drachten. The police had to turn out en masse because there were dozens of people involved. The mayor has had enough of the people in the azc.
“There should be such a policy that safe-landers can be returned immediately,” says Rijpstra. “Because an azc is for real refugees, for people who are at risk in their own country.”
“In addition, safe landlords are more likely to cause nuisance and that does not benefit the image with regard to AZC residents.”
Rijpstra makes a just point, as long as the bad apples and the asylum seekers who have exhausted all legal remedies are pampered time and time again, and in the meantime make mistakes again and again, they just have to be sent back. It is therefore more than right that the mayor addresses our state secretary about this. After all, she must offer the means so that the mayor can offer the safety that his municipality is entitled to.
The VVD has owned this portfolio for years, but in fact little changes. The question is therefore whether State Secretary Broekers-Knol dares to take hard action.
