The highlights of the first round:
8 min: Schmid with a strong cross from the right half field, which Nils Petersen reaches in the center of the box. Fortunately, the striker’s massive header flies a good meter over the crossbar. Watch out, Werder!
15.Min: Lienhart scores for the Sport-Club Freiburg to make it 1-0. After a corner from Grifo, the leather flies past friends and foes. At the second post, Höler makes the situation sharp again and thrashes the ball into the fiver. Lienhart holds out his foot and hits the lead from a short distance. Bitter!
20 min: Take a deep breath. The ball wriggled in the Werder net after a strong, flat finish from Schmid from a half-right position. Before that, however, Freiburg’s Sallai was offside. Therefore, the hit is consequently withdrawn.
25 min: filling jug stays ice cold! 1: 1! Penalty for Werder after Höler fouled Bittencourt. The filling mug starts running, stays cool and chases the leather into the top right corner to compensate!
40 min: double chance for Werder! Sargent gets through to the right in the box and pulls away. The deal is blocked and unexpectedly ends up with Woltemade, who shoots directly! Müller can fend off the not quite placed, half-high ball but strongly. Verdaaaaammmt!
