An Asteroid The Size Of A Football Stadium Soars Toward Earth Orbit

JAKARTA – The US space agency, NASA continues to monitor the existence asteroid the size of a football stadium heading towards Earth orbit. This asteroid is moving at a speed of eight kilometers per second or about 17,900 miles per hour.

Reported Express.co.uk, Thursday (22/7/2021), the asteroid called 2008 GO20, can reach a width of 220 meters, and is significantly larger than Edinburgh Castle which is 135 meters high.

The asteroid will fly through Earth’s orbit on Saturday (July 24, 2021) at around 8:35 p.m. This asteroid will fly at a distance of approximately eight times the distance between Earth and the moon. NASA said the situation was being closely monitored.

Earlier in June, an asteroid the size of the Eiffel Tower labeled 2021 KT1 approached Earth at a distance of 4.5 million kilometers. It is classified as “potentially hazardous”.

According to NASA, there are more than 26,000 asteroid near Earth and more than 1,000 of them are considered potentially dangerous. An asteroid is considered close to Earth if it is less than 1.3 times the distance from Earth to the Sun.
