An association of lawyers denounces the mayor of Santa Cruz security for the Calima Carnival | Radio Club Tenerife

The celebration of the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife during the strong episode of haze that hit the Archipelago continues to draw criticism and a complaint. That of the Canary Association for Equal Justice, which calls for an investigation into the actions of Florentino Guzmán Plasencia, councilor for Citizen Security and Civil Protection, for an alleged crime of prevarication. The complainants argue that without changing the weather conditions, nor the notices of the AEMET, nor the alert statements of the General Directorate of Health and Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands, the councilor decreed the deactivation of the Municipal Emergency Plan and ended the alert situation in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Mayor Patricia Hernández defended her government’s actions, stating that hardly any attention was recorded for respiratory ailments in the little Carnival hospital. But the Canarian Association for Equal Justice adds in that complaint, the possible damage caused to citizenship not only by the calm itself, but by the transmission in crowded places of the Covid-19 and that would explain, as they point out, the disparity of data between Tenerife, which accumulated the bulk of infections, and the rest of the islands … It is something that has also been theorized by the former spokesman of the regional government’s medical advisory committee, Luis Serra, who has pointed out on several occasions to the celebration of the Carnival and the consequent agglomeration as the cause that Tenerife has registered a greater number of cases from other islands.

In 18 pages of writing, the complaining party asks the court to investigate the criminal responsibility of those involved in what they consider to be the order to hold a carnival in the situation of strong haze “without foundation and in a rude way”, putting at risk to the population.
