an agricultural land monitoring collective set up in the Bray region

The collective of citizen agricultural and forestry land watch is organizing its first meeting today in Fontaine-en-Bray. Project leaders, farmers, but also citizens and elected officials are invited. The objective: to bring up and centralize the information on the agricultural lands which become free and thus to map them.

“When you seek to settle as a farmer, land is the sinews of war. Without agricultural land, we cannot project ourselves and get to know the surrounding actors, explains Julia Ouallet, member of the collective. We will have the testimony of farmers who had great difficulty during their first installation. “

Land watch would be structured in two ways: “On the one hand, targeted monitoring when you know the project of the people who want to settle down. We would humbly provide additional help to already existing agricultural bodies, specifies Julia Ouallet. On the other hand, we will identify land, especially with the help of elected officials who are often trades people in the country of Bray. This would attract new candidates and thus create jobs, whether for organic or conventional projects. “

Break a taboo

For the spokesperson of the collective, “There is a taboo in France on agricultural properties. When operators retire, we often find ourselves with large areas that are difficult to buy for a first-time installer who does not always have the necessary cash. However, we know that on average, you have to respond within 3 weeks during a sale. We would therefore like to prevent these lands from leaving to expand other farms and instead multiply the land. We would thus attract families and bring the villages back to life with children ”.

The will of the collective of land vigil is also to keep motivated people in the country of Bray. “I have supported several project leaders in recent years. In two years, they all left, because they did not find land, deplores Julia Ouallet, native of Brayonne and herself a project leader. I currently live in Rouen, but I want to settle in the country of Bray in order to become a baker and producer of red berries. “

“One of the first actions that I would like to suggest to the collective during the meeting is to charter a bus to tour the land to be transmitted,” concludes Julia Ouallet.

First meeting of the collective on Saturday 23 January at 2 p.m. at the Fontaine-en-Bray multipurpose room.
