The municipality of Amsterdam wants the number of new HIV infections in the city to be reduced to zero by 2026. The municipality will announce this on Thursday.
The municipality wants to make the use of the HIV prevention pill PrEP possible on a large scale. Efforts are also being made to expand the test capacity and the threshold for people to be tested must be lowered.
This makes Amsterdam the first municipality in the Netherlands to take measures that are in line with the movement The Netherlands to 0!, which the organization Aidsfonds – Soa Aids Nederland has introduced.
With this movement, the organization aims to make the Netherlands the first country in the world with zero new HIV infections.
