He insisted recent bilateral talks cannot be expected to solve every issue at once.
Speaking to reporters on Friday (1/14/2022), Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock dismissed the failure of talks between Russia and the West. According to him, productive diplomacy between the two sides is still very possible.
“There have been no joint talks with Russia within the framework of NATO for two years,” he said.
He added, “I don’t think anyone comes to the negotiating table and thinks, ‘We haven’t spoken to each other for two years, now we’re going to work out in a few hours everything that hasn’t been discussed in recent years.'”
Baerbock, who will travel to Moscow and Kiev this week for negotiations, stressed that resolving issues diplomatically is rarely easy.
