British challenger Ineos Team UK launched its second generation boat on Saturday in Auckland, New Zealand. Compared to the first model, the AC 75 “Britannia” monohull is fitted with foils on the keel, which are supposed to reduce wave resistance and help lift the boat out of the water.

American Magic almost capsized
Second generation “Britannia” was launched a day after “Patriot”, the American Magic boat, the American challenge … which almost capsized. While attempting a jibe at about 20 knots, the boat fell back into the water and came to a stop almost suddenly.

The Italian union Luna Rossa has planned to launch its second generation boat next Tuesday. The America’s Cup challengers, as well as the trophy holder Team New Zealand, will compete in a regatta next December.

The America’s Cup qualifiers will be held from January 15 to February 22, 2021. The Cup will begin on March 6.
