Americana sues company over macaroni preparation times ‘too long’ | Abroad

A woman from the US state of Florida is suing a manufacturer of ready-made macaroni because she claims it takes too long to prepare the meal. She is asking for compensation of 5 million dollars (almost 4.8 million euros).

Amanda Ramirez is suing Kraft Heinz for “false advertising” for its macaroni and cheese. The packaging states that it takes 3.5 minutes to prepare the meal, but according to Ramirez, the manufacturer falls short of its promise.

The company would not have taken into account the fact that the consumer must first open the package and then add cheese sauce and water to the meal. Only then can the food be cooked in the microwave. According to Ramirez, these extra steps make it impossible to make macaroni in 3.5 minutes.

Had Ramirez known that the macaroni would take longer to prepare, he would not have purchased the product. Because of the prep time claim, consumers are paying way too much for macaroni, he says. He says Kraft Heinz benefits from false advertising as customers trust the well-known brand to be honest with them.

“We are aware of this frivolous lawsuit and will vigorously defend these allegations,” a Kraft Heinz Foods Company spokesman said. Cnn.

In addition to the $5 million in damages, Ramirez wants the manufacturer to stop advertising and fix prep times on the packaging.
