In difficulty for years, the American manufacturer of the famous plastic food containers Tupperware has announced that it has started bankruptcy proceedings.
“The Company’s financial position has been severely impacted by the challenging macroeconomic environment over the past several years,” said Laurie Ann Goldman, CEO of the company that filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. “As a result, we have explored numerous strategic options and have determined that this is the best path forward. This process is designed to provide us with essential flexibility as we pursue strategic alternatives to support our transformation into a digitally and technologically advanced company that is better positioned to serve our stakeholders,” Goldman added.
The company’s roots date back to 1946, when chemist Earl Tupper “had a spark of inspiration while making molds in a plastics factory just after the Great Depression,” according to the Tupperware website.
