American corona vaccine ready for 30,000 subjects NOW

An American experimental corona vaccine has worked well with the first test subjects and can now be tested on a larger scale, virologist Anthony Fauci of the American corona crisis team tells the news agency on Tuesday AP.

The vaccine, developed by the American pharmaceutical company Moderna, was administered to 45 subjects in March. After a few months, the subjects’ immune systems were comparable to those of patients cured from COVID-19.

“Anyway, this is good news,” said Fauci. The vaccine will be tested on 30,000 subjects from July 27 to see if the vaccine can be used on a large scale against the coronavirus. Subjects may volunteer to study the vaccine.

It is expected to take until the end of the year before this or any other vaccine can appear on the international market.

Minimal side effects

The subjects were given a small dose of the virus in three phases, so that their immune system could develop antibodies against the virus themselves.

According to Moderna, the side effects were similar to those of other vaccines: fatigue, headache, chills, fever, and injection site pain. Three subjects with a higher dose experienced more serious complaints, when the administration of the increased dose was stopped.

The 45 subjects were all under 55 years of age and were therefore not part of the cornavirus risk group. The company has also conducted a test with older people, the results of which test is expected later.
