(CNN) — The Pentagon said in a statement, Thursday, that an American contractor was killed in Syria after a suspected pro-Iranian group’s drone bombed a facility housing American employees in northeastern Syria.
The statement added that 5 US service members and another US contractor were wounded in the strike.
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said in the statement that President Biden authorized a precision airstrike in response “in eastern Syria against facilities used by groups affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.”
The minister added, “As President Biden has made clear, we will take all necessary measures to defend our people and we will always respond at a time and place of our choosing.. No group will strike our forces with impunity.”
