American Airlines Increases Employee Salaries Up To 300 Percent

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Airlines flight American Airlines will raise wages or wages for cabin crew working during the holiday season. Unmitigated salary increase reached 300 percent.

With a note, the salary increase will be given to employees who work during the period 15 November 2021 to 2 January 2022.

An increase in wages will also be given by 150 percent, for cabin crew who work from November 2 to November 29 and December 22 to January 2.

This policy comes after American Airlines canceled thousands of scheduled flights due to staff shortages during the Halloween period.

“In future plans, we will ensure that passenger demand in November and December is met and they will be supported by all of our staff,” said American Airlines COO David Seymour. CNN Business, Sunday (7/11).

Last week, the airline struggled to handle the surge in passengers over the Halloween holiday. However, they claim the problem is primarily due to bad weather at the Dallas-Fort Worth Hub and a shortage of workers.

The airline predicts the arrival of 4,000 employees and 600 new cabin crew by the end of this year.

As many as 1,800 cabin crew have returned to work in November and another 800 will follow in December. Now the number of cabin crew has reached 24 thousand people.

Seymour said the past 20 months have been a challenging time for the company. Because there are a lot of adjustments that need to be made. One of them is to give leave to 8,000 cabin crew.

But on the other hand, airline unions are actually worried about problems that might occur ahead of the holiday season.

“We want the flight to be completed, but we don’t want to sell tickets that passengers can’t fill,” said American Airlines Captain Pilot and APA Pilots Association spokesman Dennis Tajer.

In addition, government policies related to the Covid-19 vaccine are considered to be hampering the airline’s performance. Some analysts think that if American Airlines complies with vaccine regulations, most workers will be out of work or even out of work.

Plus, there are many cases of violence that befell cabin crew during flights this year. A survey conducted by the Cabin Crew Association found that 85 percent of cabin crew respondents admitted that they had clashed with passengers who did not comply with the rules.

Of these, 58 percent of them had experienced at least 5 incidents and 17 percent of them experienced physical fights.
