The document outlines a four-day interval between December 11 and December 14 for review by the FDA and the CDC’s Immunization Practices Advisory Committee, which makes recommendations on who should receive the vaccine first. On December 15, the first dose of Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine will be administered, according to the estimated timeline named in the document.
The document also cites estimates for vaccine manufacturing, predicting 22.5 million doses of Pfizer’s vaccine and 18 million doses of Moderna’s vaccine to be produced in December.
Meanwhile on Tuesday, a vaccine adviser for the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention delivered voting 13-1 to recommend that health care workers and residents of long-term care facilities be the first to receive any Covid-19 vaccine that receives emergency authorization from the US Food and Drug Administration.
The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) chose to include the two groups in what they call Phase 1a of the CDC’s coronavirus vaccine distribution plan.
“They are at a very high risk,” said Dr. Jose Romero, chairman of ACIP.
