America is re-elected President of “Honor to Serve Riga” – Politika

On Saturday, Andris Ameriks, a member of the European Parliament, was re-elected chairman of the party “Honor to Serve Riga” (GKR).

After the election, Ameriks thanked for the trust in leading the party for the next two years. America was the only candidate for the position.

The politician said that GKR is represented in the Riga City Council and the European Parliament, but he wants it to be represented in the Saeima as well.

From America’s point of view, GKR needs to work actively and find cooperation partners in order to run in the 2022 Saeima elections.

Ameriks believes that without partners GKR participation in the Saeima elections will not be possible. Those parties elected to the Saeima receive state funding, but regional parties, including the GKR, do not receive such funding. Consequently, they were automatically decided to start in the “second league”. This is a discriminatory rule of law, according to GKR leader.

Today, the GKR Congress decided to amend the party’s statutes from 21 to 15, reducing the number of party board members. This is necessary in order to make the decisions of the board more operatively and efficiently, Ameriks explained.

Members of the Riga City Council were elected to the new board of the party – Juris Radzēvičs, Oļegs Burovs, Dainis Turlais, Ainars Baštiks, Jakovs Rafalsons, as well as Rudīte Leitena, Mareks Gailītis, Ausma Cimdiņa, Natālija Ābola, Diāna Novicka, Pjotrs Harlamovs Roman Aliyev.

Party members also elected an Audit Commission of five people.

LETA has already reported that, starting separately from “Sadarbas”, GKR, which had been in power in Riga for many years, won five seats in the extraordinary elections of the Riga City Council and has remained in opposition.

Riga City Council deputy Baštiks is the only opposition deputy who has been elected to a position. He is the Deputy Head of the Social Affairs Committee of the Riga City Council.
