AMD reports that next-gen consoles will remain in short supply in the first half of this year

It remains difficult to get a next-gen console such as a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X in the first half of this year, chipmaker AMD reports.

Lisa Su, AMD’s CEO, announced last year’s last quarter figures that the chips the company makes for next-gen consoles and game PCs cannot be manufactured fast enough. In the second half of the year, extra capacity must become available to supply more chips.

Su says that it mainly concerns the lower segment of the PC market, but that the next-gen consoles are also the victims. Worldwide, both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X are still not or hardly available. During new deliveries to online stores, copies are sold out within minutes.

AMD also announced that it had a record turnover of more than 9.7 billion dollars in 2020. As a result, turnover last year was about 45 percent higher than in 2019. In 2020 a total profit of 2.49 billion dollars was achieved.
